Hello! My name is Ellie and I’m the owner of Red Pencil Editing and Transcription. I have worked as an editor/transcriber for over a decade, providing in-demand, quality service to authors, journalists, filmmakers, podcasters, law enforcement, legal teams, and universities. Some major projects include:
Harry & Meghan (Netflix)
The Problem with Jon Stewart (Apple TV)
I’ll Be Gone in the Dark (HBO)
Allen V. Farrow (HBO)
Becoming - with Michelle Obama (Netflix)
Boys State (Apple TV)
She Said - by Jodi Kantor & Megan Twohey
I also regularly work with journalists at the New York and Los Angeles Times.
In the editing world I provide quality content editing and proofreading for legal, business, or personal documents, including but not limited to literary submissions, websites, scriptwriting, personal manuscripts, legal documents, and career/onboarding documentation.
In the transcription world I produce several types of audio/video transcripts for clients, including semi-verbatim (without verbal ticks), and full-verbatim, which are generally used for legal or editing purposes. All transcripts include time-coding unless specified otherwise. I also provide handwriting transcripts, used for digitizing older documents.
What is Transcription?
Transcription is a method of taking audio or video files and putting them in script form for the creators to use as data, for video or audio editing purposes, or to keep as a record for evidence or documentation. It can help the content creator improve speech and presentation, discover inconsistencies, or even find recurring themes. Handwriting transcripts are less common, but are a great way to digitize older documents for safekeeping.
